Product Details

In Victorian symbolism, the butterfly represented the soul. Within religion, the cycle of a butterfly has meaning - life (caterpillar), death (chrysalis), rebirth or resurrection (butterfly).

Antique Victorian (1837-1901) Moth / Butterfly brooch featuring filigree detailing. The brooches have two sets of wings which protrude giving the brooch a more pronounced 3D effect. The brooch has a signature open 'c' setting common in the Victorian era.

Filigree is a delicate form of metal work in silver or gold creating a lace effect. This style of jewellery was very popular in Italy and France in the late 19th century.
